A new pair of scholarships will reward incoming students up to $20,000 who have achieved high levels of academic proficiency. The two scholarships are predicted to double or triple scholarship values, according to a University news release.
The Summit and Apex Scholarships@@http://financialaid.uoregon.edu/summit_apex_scholarships@@ will be granted to University freshman starting in fall 2013 who have applied and meet the criteria. Those who apply by early January and meet criteria will automatically be awarded one of the scholarships.
Top scholars who are awarded the Summit Scholarship will be eligible for up to $20,000 during four years and scholars who are awarded the Apex Scholarship will be eligible for up to $12,000 during four years.
These new scholarships will join similar Oregon scholarships such as PathwayOregon, which looks at lower-income students rather than just academic merit. While the Summit and Apex Scholarships may be combined with other scholarships to reduce the cost of attendance, they cannot be combined with each other.
According to the news release, criteria for the new scholarships are as follows:
Summit Scholarship:
- Oregon resident
- Minimum 3.80 high school GPA on a 4.0 scale
- Minimum 1200 SAT (critical reading and math) or a 26 ACT score
Apex Scholarship:
- Oregon resident
- Minimum 3.65 high school GPA on a 4.0 scale
- Minimum 1150 SAT (critical reading and math) or a 25 ACT score
These new scholarships are renewable as long as the student can maintain a 3.0 cumulative UO GPA.
It is also likely that an out-of-state student will be able to receive these scholarships but the amounts will be adjusted to match higher tuition rates.
