After receiving a scholarship offer from Oregon on Wednesday afternoon, four-star wide receiver Darren Carrington wasted little time making his intentions known. The San Diego native verbally committed to the Ducks late Wednesday, according to a handful of recruiting sites.
The 6-foot-2, 180-pound wideout visited Eugene this week to attend Oregon’s high school football camps. Carrington told DuckTerritory.com that receiving an offer from Oregon — and pledging his allegiance to the Ducks — was definitely a load off his shoulders.
“I always wanted an Oregon offer and they have been by to evaluate me two times,” Carrington told DuckTerritory. “I felt like they would offer, but I wasn’t sure. To get it today was a big relief. I wasn’t sure I would commit, but I just knew after being here.”
Carrington also had scholarship offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Boise State and Michigan.
Carrington’s father, Darren Sr., is a former NFL safety. He spent eight season in the league and appeared in Super Bowl XXIX with the San Diego Chargers and Super Bowl XXIV with the Denver Broncos.
