Cold winter months find students hibernating under fluorescent lights to ward off the chill of the perpetually damp overcast. But staying warm doesn’t always mean having to bundle up under layers of your boyfriend’s old, ratty sweatshirts. Here are some tips for what girls and guys can wear to keep warm and still look cute over the upcoming gray months.
Girls:
Knit socks are a must. Not only will a few cute pairs of tall, thick, cozy socks keep your toesies nice and toasty, but they also look great over a pair of tall boots. Considering that rain boots will be the only footwear option for the next few months, it’s best to look for a way to accessorize them early.
Just because the sky is gray every day doesn’t mean that your wardrobe has to be! To keep your legs warm, try ditching the typical grey and black leggings, opting instead for a pair of thick, colorful, patterned leggings. Under sweaters and dresses, or boldly bare, these leggings are guaranteed to keep you hot — literally.
Aching, stinging, cold ears are a terrible side effect of plummeting temperatures. Instead of burying your locks in a beanie to keep warm, invest in a knit headband. A hair accessory and ear warmers in one, these headbands are great for spicing up any winter outfit. What’s more, they look great in green and yellow. Go Ducks!
Getting out of bed is hard in the winter. The world outside the covers is dark and cold, and simply, couldn’t every girl use an extra half hour of beauty sleep? For those days when you’re late for class and in a rush to find something cute, throw on an infinity scarf. With an endless (seriously, it’s a circle) possibility of styles, an infinity scarf is a cute and simple way to dress up your winter sweats.
Guys:
Get a leather jacket. The bad-boy biker look is at the heart of every girl’s unspoken fantasy. Although there’s nothing like the smell of real leather, consider buying a jacket made of the synthetic leather replica instead. They’re a cheaper and lighter alternative to the real thing and, best of all, they keep out the rain.
For some winter festivity, try out a Baja Hoodie. Yep, that’s the name for those sweaters made out of Mexican blankets. They’re warm, unique and they add a great splash of color to the dark, cold days.
A beanie is critical for keeping a bald head (or one with an exceptionally marginal amount of hair) safe from the elements. That being said, do society a favor this year and skip the Rasta hat with the fake dreads. A simple beanie is the perfect way to stay warm while keeping it classy. In addition, they’re great for showing Duck pride or hiding a nest of messy, uncombed hair.
