Voting for a special election to change the structure of ASUO budgeting committees begins Wednesday at 9 a.m. and ends Thursday at noon. Students can log on to DuckWeb to vote.
Proposed changes include eliminating the current Athletic Department Finance Committee and creating a new committee responsible for both negotiating student tickets with the athletic department and budgeting of contracted services, such as ASUO Legal Services and Lane Transit District bus passes. This committee will be known as the Athletics and Contracts Finance Committee.
It will also form a Departments Finance Committee and add two seats to the Student Senate. In the current structure, the Programs Finance Committee budgets for all programs, contracts and departments funded by student fees and has a budget of more than $4.5 million next year.
Student government officials say the changes are needed to reduce the workload of the PFC and make budgeting more fair for student groups.
If the changes pass, more student government seats will be open for election and filing will occur Friday.
