Oregon finally got its first Pacific-10 Conference dual meet win of the season and will be looking to get its second Sunday in the Civil War.
The Ducks (10-12, 1-8 Pac-10) upended Portland State (1-11, 0-8) 33-10 in Portland Wednesday night, winning five of the eight contested matches and adding two Viking forfeits to the total.
Oregon wrestlers Elliott Tracy, Kyle Bounds, Zack Frazier, Shaun Dee and Charlie Alexander scored victories. Sophomore Frazier and senior Tracy scored major decisions in the 165 and 149-pound weight classes, while redshirt freshman heavyweight Alexander got his second win by pin fall of the season. Alexander scored the pin 2:24 into the match to move his record to 22-6 on the season. Frazier’s win was his third technical win and 20-plus point-scoring match of the Pac-10 season.
In a strange twist of fate, it was the Vikings that were hurt by forfeits in the match. Portland State was forced to forfeit the 125-pound and 133-pound weight class matches to Oregon’s Joey Lucas and Ryan Dunn, respectively.
The Ducks wrestled shorthanded until senior walk-on Marcus Myers joined the team in January. Oregon was forced to forfeit matches or shift their wrestlers’ weight classes around the 184-pound weight class until the meet against UC Davis, when Myers joined at 184.
Civil War Finale
The Ducks will face Oregon State Sunday in their final Pac-10 dual meet of the season. The meet, which will be at 2 p.m. at Gill Coliseum in Corvallis, will be the 135th Civil War meet. Oregon State won the first matchup between the two schools, 23-14, in the meet held at McArthur Court on December 7. Oregon State is the defending Pac-10 team champion and was recently ranked in the top 25 nationally.
Besides honoring its four seniors from this season, the Beavers will honor Oregon and Oregon State wrestling alumni in a ceremony during the meet’s intermission.
