The Oregon women’s soccer team defeated Arizona 1-0 Sunday and Arizona State 1-0 Friday night to win its first two conference wins of the season, both on goals by sophomore Jen Stoltenberg.
Stoltenberg scored in the first minute of the game against Arizona State, but scored in the 83rd minute against the Wildcats (9-9-0, 2-5-0 Pac-10).
Oregon moved to 9-7-2 (2-4-1 Pac-10) with the wins.
Stoltenberg’s goals moved her into rare company by tying Nicole Garbin for most points in a single season with 25.
With 10 goals, she also ties Garbin’s 2005 season for third-most goals in a single season for UO.
Freshman goalkeeper Cody Miles’ sixth shutout of the year brings her to within one of the 2005 record by Jessie Chatfield.
“Cody is gaining so much confidence in herself and the team is gaining confidence in her as well,” said head coach Tara Erickson.
“She is improving each and every game.”
