International Education Week peaks with a multitude of events today. Carson Dining Hall will serve “Lunch in Thailand” between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., which will include Thai pork bowl, coconut curry chicken, winter veggies and mango tarts specially made by Chef Dan Irving. Lunch costs four points, or $7.95.
Carson Dining Hall will also serve a “Dinner in the American South” from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. The menu includes items such as Creole crawfish pasta, smoked barbecue pork spareribs, honey-stung chicken, sweet potato strudel, corn bread and peach cobbler. The dinner costs five points, or $9.95.
Chef Irving says that on an average afternoon they get about 370 to 500 people for lunch. “We’re expecting a little above average for the turnout. More non-residential customers than usual.”
The Study Abroad Fair will be in the EMU Fir Room between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. with information for those interested in taking their education overseas. “We will showcase all the programs,” says Shun Yanagishita, the supervisor for the event. “We have 165 programs in over 90 countries, and 140 internships in 20 countries.”
Advisors for the event say it is incredibly important to plan ahead for a study abroad trip. “Planning early can make it happen, even if you’re a freshman,” says Yanagishita.
At 6 p.m., PERMIAS, the UO Indonesian Student Association group, will host an open house in the Mills International Center. Members have created displays with Indonesian fabric and will play Indonesian music. “We have about 15 active members, but 30 to 40 members total,” said Adriane Bolliger, program manager of the Mills International Center.
Today’s events close with a night of German folk dancing with the German club and Germanic Languages and Literature professor Helmut Plant. The gathering begins at 7 p.m. in the Living Learning Center South.
