Quinn Moticka: “I can’t say I’m surprised there is a shortage of space to park bikes this year, but I’m glad that campus will soon have more bike racks. The University seems to be behind on expanding space for parking bikes and cars. At least some of the issue is being addressed quickly.”
Matt Petryni: “When the record freshman class enrollment was realized, most of the policy focus seemed oriented toward the inadequacy of student housing. But the rise in bike traffic also indicates there are other services provided by our campus infrastructure that are taxed and will have to be expanded if the enrollment continues to increase. This includes classroom and housing facilities, yes, but also those things not as obvious: bike racks, the recreation center, library and computer lab resources.”
Truman Capps: “Inadequate parking, inadequate bus service, inadequate housing, and now inadequate bike racks? It’s almost like the University of Oregon doesn’t want us here. The University should be more worried about providing adequate bicycle parking than ticketing the unfortunate individuals forced to chain up their bikes elsewhere. Once they make it possible to abide by the rules, I doubt they’ll have a lot of trouble with people breaking them.”
