ASUO Sen. Nathan Perley claimed innocence to all grievances filed against him by EMU Board member Michelle Haley in a response filed with the ASUO Constitution Court.
Perley is accused of 11 counts of noncompliance with his duties as Senate treasurer and ASUO senator. The Constitution Court is considering the case against Perley and will render a verdict in the future. However, there has been no timetable set for that process.
Haley submitted documents to the ASUO Constitution Court that charged Perley with providing insufficient financial advice and information to the Senate, and not serving the required number of office hours or providing sufficient notification of his office hours to his constituents. Haley also accused Perley of not forming a Finance Committee, which is his obligation under Senate rules.
Sen. Kate Jones assisted Perley in writing his response by helping him interpret the rules Haley accused him of breaking.
The response cited minutes taken at Senate meetings, saying they contained evidence that he had provided the information his position required.
Perley also said he had formed the Finance Committee, which will meet at 5 p.m. on Friday in the Metolious Room.
Perley’s response also argued there was not sufficient evidence to decide whether he had fulfilled his office hours, but he said he had.
“The office hour log is not a sufficient device to determine whether or not the Senator is in violation of duty,” he wrote in his response.
Haley said she still believed she was correct in filing her grievances and criticized the Senate for not making more records available.
“I did not file this grievance as a joke,” she said.
