The Oregon women’s track and field throwing unit is young, deep and talented.
Next year, the unit will get younger, deeper and even more talented than ever before.
The Ducks signed three of North America’s top recruits this week, and all three will make the Oregon field team a force to be reckoned with in years to come.
Two of the recruits are highly touted javelin throwers, and both should be strong in other areas as well. The first, Elisa Crumley of Glencoe High School in Hillsboro, is the nation’s third-ranked high school javelin thrower. Crumley placed third at the Oregon 4A state meet in the javelin, and also placed 13th in the discus.
The second javelin prospect is actually a foreign prospect. Roslyn Lundeen of Claremont High School in Victoria, British Columbia, is considered Canada’s top javelin prospect. Her personal best of 147-11 would qualify her for this year’s Pacific-10 Conference Championships, while her best mark in the shot put would nearly qualify her in that event as well.
The third prospect, Katie McKeever of Woodland High School in Woodland, Calif., is perhaps the most exciting addition to the team. McKeever ranks second nationally in the discus, and her throws in that event rival those of Oregon’s current number two, senior Maureen Morrison.
Oregon throws coach Sally Harmon said she is excited about her new, talented additions.
“They’ve all proven themselves in high-level competition and have developed progressively throughout their careers,” Harmon said. “I also like the fact that they’re all multi-sport athletes and are successful in all of their sports.”
