The Community Alliance of Lane County will remember the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a dramatic reading of his speech, “A Time to Break Silence” tonight at 7 p.m.
The reading will take place at First Christian Church, 1166 Oak St. No one who has any concern for the integrity and life of America today can ignore the present war, insisted King on April 4, 1967, according to a CALC press release.
In the prophetic speech, King linked his opposition to the Vietnam War with the struggle for social justice and warned of future conflicts if American values did not change, the release said. Carol Horne is directing the dramatic reading, which involves diverse voices, the release said.
The free event will include a powerpoint collage, “Images of War and Resistance,” and two dance pieces – “Hip Hop Hope” by Culture Jam and “A Better Way” by People Embracing a Collaborative Experience. Refreshments will be served.
