A memorial for University student Benjamin Hornstein will take place tonight from 4 to 6 p.m. in Carson Hall.
Hornstein, 19, died Jan. 30, 2006, in a car accident in Tennessee while traveling across the country to return to the University, said his mother, Beverly Hornstein. He was born and raised in Norfolk, Va.
Hornstein chose the University because he loved Oregon, his mother said. He visited several times in high school during summer breaks and fell in love with the state’s natural beauty, she said.
Hornstein is survived by his parents, three sisters and friends at both the University and around the country.
“He was such a gentle soul, a good soul,” Beverly Hornstein said. “These kinds of adjectives were repeated over and over again” in letters and e-mails about her son.
Service will memorialize Benjamin Hornstein today
