The Oregon softball team received good news heading into Civil War weekend, where they will finish the season series against No. 8 Oregon State Friday and Saturday in Corvallis.
Oregon redshirt freshman Jenn Salling, was named to the Team Canada roster Thursday. The team will compete in the Ontario Pro Tour, the Canada Cup, the U.S. Cup and the 2006 International Softball Federation World Championships in Beijing, China – a qualifier for the 2008 Summer Olympics.
The team will begin exhibition games June 17 in Ontario, Canada.
Meanwhile, the Ducks (19-13 overall, 1-3 Pacific-10 Conference) face in-state rival Oregon State (29-6, 2-4) Friday at 4 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Beavers, who have won at least 30 games in each of the past seven seasons, defeated Oregon 2-0 in the earlier season matchup on April 4. Beavers pitcher Brianne McGowan threw a two-hit shutout. McGowan also hit a two-run single in the top of the first inning to supply the Beavers’ only offense.
Oregon pitcher Melissa Rice retired 13 consecutive batters in relief.
Senior Amy Harris is expected to start in a return to the mound for the Ducks. Harris, who threw two perfect innings Wednesday against Portland State, has not started a game since March 26 against Akron.
