Black Women of Achievement will sponsor the Ebony Man Showcase today at 6 p.m. in the EMU Ballroom. The event aims to honor male students of color for outstanding achievement in academics, athletics and community service, group member Kari Herinckx said.
Herinckx said the group designed the event to help break down stereotypes about students of color, specifically black men. Black men are not often in the spotlight for academic or service work, Herinckx said, and the event is a chance to give outstanding students the recognition they deserve.
The event will begin with the presentation of awards to the winning freshman and sophomore students, Herinckx said. After the awards, Herinckx said, pasta and chicken primavera will be served.
After dinner, the winning junior, senior and graduate students will receive their awards. The event will culminate in the awarding of ebony man of the year. Herinckx said the event may also include poetry and singing.
The event is free and open to the public.
