Christians on campus, and recently across the nation as it made headlines, are justifiably upset with The Insurgent publishing cartoons ridiculing Jesus. After all, one plainly unfair fact remains. Some of their money has gone to a laughably weak excuse of a newspaper with a staff that couldn’t help but partake in the middle school tendency of sketching genitalia and other sexually graphic images on a revered figure. In what partly seems a childish attempt to simply offend Christians, and partly an attempt to make a point following the Muhammed cartoons published in several European newspapers, and the Oregon Commentator especially, The Insurgent managed to achieve an even greater success. They brought to light a notable difference between the two offended groups. “Students of Faith” went the way of filing a grievance, a rather peaceful action, when their Lord was mocked. Fascist Muslims, on the other hand, only furthered the reality that they are abhorrent murderers. A big “thank you” to The Insurgent for demonstrating that Christians do indeed react rationally to juvenile efforts meant to provoke. To the Christians that found the cartoons hateful and insulting, I congratulate you. At least you didn’t kill anybody.
