The Oregon women’s tennis team’s season is over. The Ducks’ postseason run was cut short by two first-round defeats in as many days at the NCAA Division I Tennis Championships.
Junior Dominika Dieskova bowed out of the singles tournament at Stanford on Wednesday after a hard-fought 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 loss to Virginia Tech’s Inga Beermann in the first round.
“It was a great fight and a tough match,” Dieskova said. “I played very well in the first set and was being very aggressive. I felt like I could win. But she stepped up in the second and third sets, and I was just going for it too much on some points. I have to give her credit. She’s a good player and she played very smart.”
In the doubles tournament Thursday, 29th-ranked Dieskova and freshman Ceci Olivos went up against TCU’s 14th-ranked Helena Besovic and Ana Cetnik.
The Ducks were defeated 7-6, 6-3.
“I thought they played very well, and I was really pleased,” women’s coach Nils Schyllander said.
“The whole match was very high-level from start to finish. We played a very good team. But we had tons of chances. We played as good, if not better, than we have all year.”
