Oregon signed two of California’s top high school basketball recruits, coach Ernie Kent announced Wednesday.
Guard Kamyron Brown and small forward Drew Viney signed National Letters of Intent and Kent plans on utilizing their abilities in his up-tempo offense in the coming years.
“Signing Kamyron and Drew will allow us to continue to play fast and run and shoot the ball well for years to come,” Kent said in a University press release. “They both come from winning programs that emphasize hard work, which should ease their transition to the college game.”
The 6-foot-2-inch Brown averaged 10 points, eight assists and six rebounds per game as a junior for Mater Dei High school in Santa Ana, Calif. He helped lead the team to consecutive appearances in the state title game.
“Kamyron comes from an outstanding program,” Kent said. “Nothing but winners come from Mater Dei. Kamyron is a smart, hard-nosed point-guard who knows how to play the position.”
Viney is listed as a 6-foot-7-inch forward who averaged 18 points and 12 rebounds per game as a junior at Villa Park High School.
“He is one of the most skilled perimeter players in the West,” Kent said. “He is a pure shooter who can also score off the dribble as well.”
Rivals.com lists Brown as the best point guard in California and the No. 18 at the position in the country. Scout.com has Viney listed as a four-star recruit and the 20th-best small forward nationally.
