Tennis
The Oregon club tennis team won its section tournament in Portland, Ore., Sunday to receive an automatic bid to the national tournament held in Cary, North Carolina, April 26-28.
The Ducks were divided into three different squads composed of seven players and battled 24 teams and 12 schools over the weekend. Coordinator Tina Snodgrass competed on the winning squad, team one, but said the other two Ducks’ teams proved instrumental.
“Team two played Portland State, who we played in the semifinals, which was also our toughest match,” Snodgrass said. “If they hadn’t had the chance to play them the round before and scout them for us we may not have been able to pull out the win. Team 3 lost to Simon Frazier on Sunday before we played them in the finals. They were able to give us information on how to play that team as well.”
The team one roster included: Andrea Takamiya, Moeko Sasaki, Tina Snodgrass, Ben Pritchard, Jon Hattenauer, Charles Tran and Lee Lenker.
