University student arrested for drunken driving, fake ID
Eugene police arrested a 19-year-old University student on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol early Sunday morning on campus.
History major Phillip Donnelly Jones was charged with drunken driving, being a minor in possession of alcohol and traveling the wrong way on a one-way street after a police sergeant pulled him over at East 13th Avenue and Kincaid Street shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday, according to police.
The sergeant watched as Jones, who was driving a maroon 1999 Ford Explorer, pulled out of the 7-Eleven parking lot on Broadway Avenue and Patterson Street northwest of campus, said Kerry Delf, police spokeswoman. Jones drove off a curb as he left the lot and headed the wrong way on Patterson, Delf said.
Jones was also charged with first-degree forgery for having a fake Nebraska driver’s license, Delf said.
He was released to his roommate after being charged.
Student arrested for breaking CAHOOTS van window, police say
A 22-year-old University sociology major was arrested on second-degree criminal mischief charges Thursday night for kicking out the window of a CAHOOTS van while intoxicated, Delf said.
Kyle G. Evensen was arrested and booked into Lane County jail after he broke the window while inside the moving van, putting it out of service, Delf said.
CAHOOTS, a mobile crisis intervention team, had been voluntarily transporting Evensen to the Buckley House detoxification center.
The incident began when a concerned person at East 11th Avenue and Hilyard Street called in to report a drunken person urinating, Delf said.
Transient arrested near campus on outstanding warrants
Police arrested a 40-year-old transient man near campus early Friday morning on three outstanding warrants, police said.
Rusty Lee Weston, who was arrested at East 13th Avenue and Kincaid Street, was wanted for first-degree criminal trespass, third-degree theft and parole violation.
Police assisted Department of Public Safety officers with the arrest shortly before 6 a.m. Friday.
Female student fends off attempted assault
An 18-year-old female student was assaulted by an unknown suspect Friday night near East 18th Avenue and Harris Street south of campus, police said.
The student was walking home after being dropped off by friends when a person grabbed her by the side of the neck. She elbowed the assailant and got away, Delf said.
The suspect did not say anything, and the student did not get a physical description.
