What is a Muse?
Muse is a trio of Brits with sexy accents and a talent for good, creative songs. Formed in Teignmouth, Devon, U.K., Muse consists of Matthew Bellamy (vocals, guitar, piano and keyboard), Chris Wolstenholme (bass), Dominic Howard (drums)
and Morgan Nichols (keyboards, samples, backing vocals).
This time around, Muse has birthed an album that takes quite a
departure from its previous ones. “Black Holes and Revelations”
is appropriately a very space-rock and electronic driven album.
Credit should be given to Muse for experimenting with such a wide range of sounds, including guitars, electronics, flamenco
guitar and mariachi horns. Lyrics with political themes charge many of the songs, as well as environmental pollution and the idea of revolution.
“And our freedom’s consuming itself / What we’ve become / It’s contrary to what we want,” is a sample of what Muse is ranting about in the song “Take a Bow.”
It’s a noble attempt, but “Black Holes and Revelations” is not going to make people revolt because sometimes it’s just too weird to be taken seriously.
