After many months of patiently reading pious (and many times amateurish) pontifications by your columnists, I finally found a gem: Ailee Slater’s opinion on June 12 (“A red carpet stroll to the real world,” ODE). In an edition leading with the question of grade inflation, she offers a breath of fresh air.
While her colleagues seem to try to find themselves in the larger world, she takes a candid look at herself and her goals and writes a wonderful column about deliberately choosing the University of Oregon instead of lusting after admission to a prestigious “name” university. She sounds like a well-adjusted young woman, happy with her choice. I wish her the continued happiness that so many of us have never experienced.
