Reporter Edward Oser and Photo Editor Zane Ritt tell the story of their visit to Belle Pente Winery and Vineyard at harvest time.
Oser’s interest in history inspired him to seek how this ancient practice is now incorporating modern technology.
Although little seems to have changed from the basic process over the years, Ed was surprised to see the obvious division of culture and class between the workers who pick the grapes and those who process the wine.
Oser observed that, as is true in many industries, the workers harvesting the grapes, are likely unable to afford the end product of their labors.
