Joevan Catron
Sophomore forward
Oregon Daily Emerald: How was your summer?
Joevan Catron: It was great. I had a chance to go back home, relax with the family and take a few trips. We went down to Memphis, Tennessee, to see my auntie and we went to Ann Arbor, Michigan, to see the Michigan versus Oregon game. So I had a pretty good time.
ODE: Did you add anything to your arsenal over the summer?
JC: I think you will pretty much see me shoot more from 15 feet and on out, to the three.
ODE: Every big man wants to shoot the three now. Why?
JC: It’s another weapon. It makes you a triple threat and gives you more options.
ODE: Looks like you might be getting by guys faster. Did you lose weight?
JC: Yeah I did. Since the start of last year, I was like 255. Now, I’m down to 237.
ODE: How have you changed your diet?
JC: I usually get a bowl of Oh’s if I get the chance to eat breakfast now. In my high school days, my grandmother would always get up and fix me sausage, bacon, eggs and porkchops, and things like that. I haven’t had that stuff in so long.
ODE: How about lunch?
JC: Pretty much Subway. I don’t like to eat heavily before we run. In high school, Wendy’s – it was terrible, it was all bad. But it was good going down.
ODE: And dinner?
JC: Me and the fellas would go out to Papa’s Soulfood Kitchen over in downtown Eugene. We would go down there a couple times a week. Now, it’s Subway.
ODE: What’s on your iPod now?
JC: Everything. Malik Hairston is our iPod man. He gives me all the new music, movies, things like that. He has like every album since the beginning of time, from old school to new school.
