Both the men’s and women’s golf teams were in action yesterday, playing the first two rounds of their two-day tournaments. The women are in Boulder, Colo. for the Heather Farr Memorial Invitational, hosted by the University of Colorado.
After the first day, the women posted an overall score of 606, trailing Colorado and the University of Oklahoma by 18 strokes. Cathryn Bristow is currently the top placing Duck at 4-over par, tied for 13th. One stroke behind and tied for 22nd place is Kendra Little. Felicia Eastick is currently sitting in 37th with an 8-over par.
Rounding out the team’s scores are Kate Hildahl and Victoria Wenslow, both tied at 65th place with 14-over pars. Second day action wraps up today with the third round.
Colorado’s Dominique Pytlewski leads all golfers with a 3-under 141. Portland State’s Kayla Morinaga, UC Davis’ Bryana Gregory, and Colorado’s Julie Kim all share second place, posting scores of 1-under 143. Bristow falls seven strokes back of Pytlewski.
Men stand in second place in Washington
In Bremerton, Wash., where the men are competing in the Husky Invitational, the Ducks had the best overall day of all 13 teams (4-over par), standing at 16-over par with play suspended for darkness just before the end of the second round. The Ducks are tied for second place with host Washington.
Freshman Jack Dukeminier finished his second round with an even-par 72, putting him in a tie for eighth place at 2-over par (146). Senior Joey Benedetti sat at 4-over par through 17 holes before play was suspended. Benedetti shot a one-over 73 the day before.
Freshman Isaiah Telles finished the day tied for 17th at 5-over par, and senior Derek Sipe was 11-over par, tied for 43rd, with his round suspended. Oregon’s Sean Maekawa bounced back from an 8-over 80 and a tie for 62nd place to post an even-par 72, good for a tie for 33rd.
Dukeminier finished eight strokes back of Oregon State’s James Allenby, the lowest individual scorer. Allenby posted an overall score of 6-under with his second round suspended. Washington’s Zach Bixler is a distant second at 2-under.
Oregon State leads in the overall team standings at 5-over par with rounds yet to be finished. Pepperdine stands in fourth place at 19-over, and San Diego State and California are tied for fifth at 21-over par.
