Need to freshen up your music library during the warm season? Here are some sizzlin’ songs to cool down your summer days and heat up your summer nights.
Each song is available for purchase at the iTunes store, so for $12 you can have an unbeatable summer mix.
“Electropop” – Jupiter Rising
Don’t be fooled – the song’s title does not accurately reflect the sound of the song. It sounds less like traditional electronic music and more like a sexy hip-hop duet between Jupiter Rising’s Jessie Payo and Spencer Nezey, with a catchy electronic beat underlying the whole thing.
“Ring My Bells” – Enrique Iglesias
“Do You Know (The Ping Pong Song)” may be Iglesias’ main single right now from his new album, but “Ring My Bells” is much hotter. It’s the perfect follow-up to “Electropop,” as Iglesias will seduce you with his sensual voice laid over a slow, steady beat that’s pure sex. Try not to love this song. I dare you.
“Control” – Kid Sister
Even if you’re not a fan of rap or hip-hop, “Control” is insanely catchy and undeniably so, and it’s nice to hear a song from a female rapper that breaks the traditional rap mold. Kid Sister is a virtual unknown right now, but one can only hope that will change.
“I Don’t Need a Man” – the Pussycat Dolls
This is not a new song by any means – It’s from the Pussycat Dolls’ 2005 album “PCD” – but it’s perfectly upbeat and catchy to keep you moving this summer. Sure the Pussycat Dolls are a little skanky, but everyone needs a summer guilty pleasure, right? This is the perfect track to fill your bad pop quota.
“I Will Believe It” – SIRIA
What’s summer without a hot dance song? The latest from Cascada’s Natalie Horler and DJ Manian is a little less intense and less derivative-sounding than some of Cascada’s previous fare, so even opponents of Cascada may want to check this one out.
“Whine Up” – Kat DeLuna
“Whine Up” is already burning its way up the top downloads chart on iTunes – and for good reason; the track has been compared to Rihanna’s dancehall-inspired tunes, and it’s rhythmic intensity is just begging you to dance along. The song even opens with the exclamation “It’s summertime!” What more do you need?
“I Want to Have Your Babies” – Natasha Bedingfield
Bedingfield’s newest single is only available in video form on iTunes right now, but it should be available in audio form soon. The song is catchy and has a refreshing honesty to it as Bedingfield declares, “Oops..Did I say it out loud?/I want to have your babies.” It’s already a hit overseas, so it’s only a matter of time before we get it here.
“Las de la Intuición” – Shakira
Yeah, it’s in Spanish, but since when has that stopped you from loving Shakira? It takes a bit to get started, but it’s a nice relief from the intensity of the previously mentioned summer tracks. But it is Shakira after all, so don’t expect it to be a downer by any means. Oh, and did I mention how fantastic the video is? YouTube it.
“Umbrella” – Rihanna feat. Jay-Z
You’ve already heard it by now, I’m sure, and you either love it or hate it. I just had to include it on the list because, let’s be honest, Rihanna just makes summer music much hotter.
“The Way I Are” – Timbaland feat. Keri Hilson and D.O.E.
We all know that Timbaland has a golden touch when it comes to producing music, but with “The Way I Are” he proves that he has what it takes to make his own good music. And it is good. Really good. If this song’s pulsating beat doesn’t have you moving, I don’t know what’s wrong with you.
“Tell Me Why” – Supermode
This track isn’t new by any means, but that doesn’t make it any less perfect for your summer soundtrack. It’s slightly retro, slightly repetitive, but totally intense and immensely danceable. Excess adjectives aside, it’s the perfect track to keep you moving all throughout the day and long into the night.
“Breathe On Me” – Britney Spears
I couldn’t resist – I had to include a Britney song on my list. Seriously, though, “Breathe on Me” is an ambient, trance-y, intensely sexy song that is bound to steam things up during those long summer nights. Pair it up with Enrique’s “Ring My Bells” and you’ve got yourself one surefire set of baby-making music.
