The unidentified male who was abandoned on campus on Wednesday evening was released from the hospital today (Jan. 19), according to the Department of Public Safety.
DPS was unable to attain the identity of the male because Sacred Heart Hospital, where the male was being treated for alcohol poisoning and a likely case of hypothermia, is restricted by law from releasing patient medical information.
The 18-year-old male was not a University student, said DPS Lt. Herb Horner.
Horner said the male told Sacred Heart that he was intoxicated and did not remember the circumstances surrounding his abandonment behind the Education building at about 9 p.m. Wednesday. Horner said the male did not say whether he planned to file a criminal complaint against those who left him behind.
Without a criminal complaint, DPS can not conduct an investigation, Horner said.
“Technically there has been no crime,” he said.
“(The people who left him) just said, ‘he’s drunk we’re going to pick him up tomorrow’,” Horner speculated. “Couple of real friends.”
