The Oregon men’s and women’s track and field teams open their indoor seasons this weekend in Seattle at Washington’s Dempsey Indoor Center.
Eighteen women and 34 men will compete in sprint, distance, jumping, throwing and multi-events.
Some of the Ducks have already seen action this season. At the Pole Vault Summit in Reno, Nev. last weekend, senior pole vaulter Tommy Skipper led the men’s invitational section (fifth overall, 18-0 1/2 (5.50m) for his thirteenth indoor meet above 18 feet for the Ducks.
In his career at Oregon, Skipper has already won four NCAA pole vault titles indoors and outdoors.
For the women, senior pole vaulter Emily Enders also distinguished herself last weekend in Reno when she climbed to fourth all-time in the Oregon record books with her first 13-foot vault (13-3 1/2 (4.05m)), which was a indoor personal best for her by four inches.
Another notable name on the Ducks’ women’s track roster is Rebekah Noble. Noble won the NCAA outdoor title in the 800m as a freshman last spring and will compete in the mile race this weekend.
Now that football season is over, two members of the Ducks’ football team have crossed over to the track team.
Rover Patrick Chung, and cornerback Walter Thurmond III, will both compete in the men’s 60m sprint this weekend.
Thurmond will also run in the 60m hurdles.
