For some students, the 2000 election in November will be their first chance to vote for a presidential candidate.
While the race for the White House gains most of the national attention, there are plenty of other state and local races that will be receiving coverage in newspapers across Oregon.
The Emerald plans on offering as much insight and information as the community reporters and community editor can gather, so that voters — whether this is your first time around or your fifth time casting a ballot — can make decisions based on the facts.
In addition to the races for specific races, Oregon, in case you didn’t know, has a ballot measure system that allows citizens to put their measures on the ballot, if they gain a qualifying number of signatures. This year a total of 26 such measures made the cut, and a few directly affect University students.
Part one of the state Voter’s Pamphlet will be available Oct. 11, while part two is scheduled for an Oct. 18 street date. All information in the pamphlet can also be accessed at www.sos.state.or.us/Elections/.
