The Oregon men’s golf team completed a strong third round of play at the Pacific-10 Conference Championship tournament yesterday afternoon at the Seattle Golf Course in Seattle, Wash.
The 40th-ranked Ducks pulled away from some of the top teams in the nation in route to a second-place finish overall on the day, while the No. 6 Washington Huskies remained in the lead.
Freshman Daniel Miernicki had a strong performance as he shot a 2-under 70 to finish in a tie for third place overall. Miernicki, in his first Pac-10 tournament appearance, is ahead of three of the nations top-10 golfers, including No. 3 Matthew Giles of USC.
Sophomore Isaiah Telles and freshman Eugene Wong continued their strong play from Monday, as they both finished in sixth place with a three-round score of 215 – only eight strokes behind the individual leader (UW’s Darren Wallace at 207).
Freshman Robbie Ziegler and sophomore Jack Dukeminier rounded out the scoring for Oregon as they finished 20th and 26th, respectively.
The young Duck squad will look to make their final surge into first place tomorrow morning on the third and final day of the tournament.
