First baseman Ricky Oropesa hit a walk-off, solo home run off of reliever Ryan Fleckenstein in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the USC Trojans to a 3-2 win over Oregon.
Oropesa was 2-for-4 with two RBI’s for the Trojans (15-14, 5-5), who took game one of the three game series. Left fielder Curtis Raulinaitis was 2-for-4 for Oregon (12-18, 2-5). The Ducks have now lost three straight Pac-10 games.
Freshman Tyler Anderson (2-3) started on the mound for Oregon, and he left the game with the scored tied at two runs in the eighth inning. Anderson finished with two runs on four hits and six strike-outs. Fleckenstein (1-1) earned the loss, going two-thirds of an inning, and allowing one hit on one run.
Brad Boxberger (2-3) started for the Trojans on the mound, but left after the eighth inning. He gave up two runs on four hits, and struck out eight batters. Reliever Daniel Cooper (1-0) gets the win for USC.
The Ducks play the Trojans tonight at 6:30 p.m. in game two of the three-game series. Erik Stavert will start for Oregon.
