Mayor Kitty Piercy has declared “Medical Marijuana Awareness Week,” starting April 30 and extending through Wednesday, May 6.
Piercy plans to speak Saturday at the Global Marijuana March rally at the old Federal Building at Seventh Avenue and Pearl Street.
Eugene is one of 263 cities worldwide participating in the march, which promotes and educates on legalizing marijuana and supports medical marijuana legislation.
While Piercy says her appearance at the event should not be taken as advocacy for legalizing marijuana, she will read a formal proclamation of Medical Marijuana Awareness Week.
Piercy has said she is not leading the medical marijuana cause, but neither is she hiding her support for “legal, medical use of marijuana.”
