Five grievances were filed during the third day of the ASUO general election Wednesday. Another filed after the 3 p.m. deadline will not be considered until Thursday, ASUO Elections Coordinator Aaron Tuttle said.
The grievances included two from former Senate Ombudsman Derek Nix seeking to remove executive candidates Emma Kallaway and Getachew Kassa from the ballot. One grievance alleged that Jory Card, co-director of the LGBTQA, prohibited program members from wearing campaign T-shirts. The complaint states programs should be able to make their own rules on elections rather than the decision being left to the co-director.
Nix’s other grievance alleges Kallaway volunteers asked a non-student to sign “a petition for a lower incidental fee” and later called the person to solicit a vote.
Sen. Deborah Bloom filed against Lindsay Reichardt, her opponent for the journalism school seat, because Reichardt’s campaign materials were e-mailed to a journalism class. Tuttle said similar issues have already been decided and because Reichardt did not send the message herself the grievance would likely be dismissed.
A grievance by economics major Conrad Wolfard said two Kallaway volunteers tore down an Oregon Action Team banner outside his house. Tuttle said Wolfard said he saw one person wearing what looked like a Kallaway T-shirt and could not identify the clothing of the other person allegedly ripping down the sign.
Students for Lower Incidental Fees co-chairman Brendan Good filed a grievance against Tuttle for “acting against viewpoint neutrality” when ruling against Oregon Action Team presidential candidate Michelle Haley in a grievance Tuesday night. Good wrote that Tuttle should have recused himself because he is a former co-worker of Kallaway. Good asked the elections board to reinstate Haley’s name on the ballot, which was already decided Wednesday morning. It also asks that Tuttle be removed as from his position as chair of the elections board and that the board make a formal apology to Haley.
