Oregon lacrosse scored the final three goals of Friday’s semifinal match against Cal in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament but came up one short of taking the game to overtime, losing 10-9 and ending its season at 12-5.
The record is one win shy of the program record that came last season.
Senior Ilsa van den Berg scored three points in her final game of her Oregon career and sophomore Alex Breiner added three more, all on assists.
Senior goalkeeper Anna Poponyak allowed all 10 shots that were shot at her in 43 minutes of playing time before being substituted for sophomore Hannah Jones.
It is the second one-goal loss to Cal in the last week.
The Golden Bears scored three goals in two minutes to take a 4-3 lead in the first half before the Ducks answered with three of their own to pull ahead by two.
Starting with a Molly Everett goal by Cal with 2:50 remaining in the first half, Cal ripped off six unanswered goals, ending with Alex Tickner’s goal on a free position shot with 17 minutes remaining, coinciding with Poponyak’s substitution.
Junior Celeste Mayer scored on a free-position shot, and van den Berg and freshman Catherine Davidson followed to get within one with 2:31 remaining. The Bears were able to run out the clock to win the game and advance to the MPSF tournament championship.
