Members of the recently formed student group STEP Up, Oregon! advocate for international labor rights and ethical employment standards.
STEP Up, Oregon! is the UO chapter of the United Students Against Sweatshops.
On Wed., April 22nd, they marched to the Office of Marketing and Brand Management to encourage Director of Brand Management, Matt Dyste, to cut the UO contract with Russell Athletics. Russell Athletics produces apparel for UO and other universities. The company has violated international and Honduran labor laws by closing a factory where workers formed a union. In January, Russell laid off about 1,800 workers and blacklisted them from finding work.
STEP Up, Oregon! meets Mondays at 6pm in EMU Century Room B.
Every other Monday the group hosts a film series in McKenzie Hall Room 123 at 7pm.
