It was with disappointment that I read about Nathan Tublitz’s surprise announcement to run for vice president of the University Senate. To me, Tublitz’s decision to
announce his candidacy so late in the process and without notification to his opponent or the Senate says a lot about how he would act in the role if elected to the position. If elected, will he wait until the last minute to make important decisions?
As a former law student, I have had the pleasure of learning from professor Andrea Coles-Bjerre. Coles-Bjerre is extremely knowledgeable, personable and generous with her time. She is able to translate confusing and complex issues into terms non-legal professionals can easily understand. She has valuable experience as an attorney and as a professor.
Though I have never met professor Tublitz, I recommend Coles-Bjerre without reservation. I hope the University Senate recognizes Coles-Bjerre’s numerous strengths, and elect her to the vice presidency at the first fall term Senate meeting.
