The No. 35 Oregon men’s golf team completed its first day at the 2009 NCAA West Regional tournament yesterday afternoon at the Lake Merced Golf Club in Daly City, Calif. The Ducks had two exceptionally strong first-round scores from freshmen Daniel Miernicki and Robbie Ziegler, who both shot 3-under 69 for the day. They finished in a five-way tie for sixth place.
Oregon finished the day six strokes under par, which was good enough for fourth place overall. No. 37 New Mexico and No. 14 Arizona State University ended the day in a tie for first, while No. 12 Texas A&M University finished in third, one stroke ahead of the Ducks.
Freshman Eugene Wong and sophomore Isaiah Telles each broke even for the day and found themselves in 15th. Sophomore Jack Dukeminier concluded the first round 1-over 73 in 35th place.
Action will pick up again today at 8:30 a.m.
