After a protest in front of McArthur Court this morning, a labor union has convinced musician Bob Dylan to drop the support staff he intended to use to take down the stage for tonight’s concert and hire a new one.
The Theatrical Stagehands Union Local #675, a Eugene group, protested because a non-binding agreement with the University allowing it to set up shows on campus. However, Live Nation, the company organizing the concert, instead contracted with another group, Rhino Staging, to set up and take down the stage.
Rhino Staging charged Live Nation $10 an hour. The Theatrical Stagehands charge $17 an hour. Rhino Staging was already setting up the show when the agreement was reached, but the Theatrical Stagehands will break it down for Dylan.
