After spending most of his sophomore season sidelined with a broken foot, Oregon running back Remene Alston made his presence felt in last weekend’s game rushing six times for 42 yards and a touchdown. The Oregon Daily Emerald caught Alston after practice this week to see how things are going, both on and off the field.
Oregon Daily Emerald: What’s your major?
Remene Alston: Political science.
ODE: What do you hope to do with that?
RA: Actually, over the last year or so, I’ve grown fond of coaching, you know, just the different methods to help players reach their potential.
ODE: Would you want to come back here to do that, or maybe start at the prep level?
RA: I’d love to coach at the college level, but you got to crawl before you can walk.
ODE: How does it feel to finally be healthy after overcoming the broken foot last season?
RA: It’s been a long time coming.
ODE: What are you listening to these days?
RA: Top three CD’s I listen to are: Trey Songz’s “Ready,” of course Jay-Z’s “The Blueprint 3” and Fabolous’ “Loso’s Way.”
ODE: What about movies?
RA: Actually Friday, in the hotel before the game, me and Andre (Crenshaw) were looking at “Death Race” with Tyrese and Jason Statham. But I’m a big cartoon movie guy, like animation.
ODE: What’s you favorite one?
RA: I don’t know. But it might be Toy Story. Buzz Lightyear man, I know it sounds childish, but whatever.
ODE: As a player, what’s it like coming out of that tunnel on Saturdays?
RA: You know, it never gets old. I’ve been here for a while now and it never gets old. It’s like it’s brand new all over again.
ODE: Do you live with anybody else on the team?
RA: Yeah, Bryson Littlejohn.
ODE: How’s that?
RA: Me and him get along, we’re cool.
ODE: So who does all the cooking?
RA: I’d probably say I do all the cooking, but at our house it’s comedy all the time!
ODE: Is he pretty funny outside of football?
RA: Oh yeah, I think we both equally are.
