The Oregon women’s soccer team (8-7-1, 0-5 Pac-10) suffered two tough road losses this week as they fell 5-1 to No. 4 UCLA on Friday night and 1-0 to the No. 14 USC Trojans
yesterday afternoon.
The Bruins were able to find the back of the net three times in the first half and struck twice more within the first 15 minutes of the second. Lauren Cheney and Sydney Leroux each scored a pair of goals for UCLA, while the Ducks’ lone goal came in the 60th minute from junior Jen Stoltenberg on an assist from Kirstie Kuhns at the top of the 18-yard box.
Sunday’s match featured a defensive showdown with seven Oregon field players — Teresa Bowns, Taylor Jones, Kuhns, Dani Oster, Stoltenberg, Danielle Sweeney and Mercedes Walters —going the full 90 minutes in another tough road loss.
USC midfielder Alyssa Davila recorded the only goal of the match in the eighth minute of play, and neither team was able to capitalize for the rest of the contest. Redshirt senior goalkeeper Jessie Proulx showed some signs of improvement against USC as she tallied a
season-high five saves.
The women of Troy edged the Ducks in shots, shots on goal, corner kicks, and fouls in
the match.
The Ducks will next take on the Washington Huskies on Friday, Oct. 30, and Washington State on Sunday, Nov. 1 in what will be the team’s final home series of the season.
