Nothing says the holidays quite like a good winter wreath! Wreaths are generally cheap and easy to make. They can add a daily dose of the holiday spirit to your home. Here are five ideas for DIY-ing the perfect holiday wreath this winter. Check out our local Dollar Tree, Michael’s, or Materials Exchange Center for Community Arts (MECCA) for all of the supplies necessary for these wreaths.
The Classic:
What you’ll need:
- Grapevine or wire
- Evergreen sprigs (fresh or fake)
- Holly berry sprigs
- Ribbon
- Twine
Shape the wire or grapevine into a circle and use the the twine to weave the evergreen and berries in and out, securing it with knots as you go. You can make the wreath as full or as sparse as you like. Finish off with a ribbon, either tied at the bottom in a visible bow, or used as a hanging device.
The Glam:
What you’ll need:
- Styrofoam wreath form
- Silver tinsel
- Cheap/colorful bulb ornaments
- Glue
- Twine
Wrap the tinsel around the wreath form, securing it as you go. Then stick the ornaments into the styrofoam or glue them in place around the wreath, either scattered throughout or in one central location. Use the extra twine to create a hanging device.
The Bow:
What you’ll need:
- sturdy wire or wreath form
- Ribbon
- Scissors
For this one, simply cut the ribbon into equal-sized strips and tie them in little bows next to each other around the wire or wreath form. The result is an incredibly easy holiday wreath!
The Wino:
What you’ll need:
- Wine corks (start saving those bad boys ASAP!)
- Wreath form
- Holly berry sprigs
- Evergreen sprigs
- Ribbon/bulb ornaments
- Glue
Glue the wine corks and holly berry sprigs to the wreath form leaving space for some evergreen sprigs and ornaments/ribbon on one side. This idea could also easily be done with beer bottle caps, so if you’re not a wino, start saving up those caps instead!
The Candy Cane:
What you’ll need:
- 18 full-sized candy canes
- Glue
- Ribbon
- Snowflake ornament
Glue the candy canes to each other in heart-shaped clusters. Then glue each heart-shaped cluster to the others, taking extra care to secure them all together in the center. Cover the center with a snowflake ornament and create a hanging mechanism with some red ribbon.
