A.J. Acosta hit an NCAA automatic-qualifying mark in the men’s mile at the Husky Last Chance Qualifier in Seattle on Saturday.
The Oceanside, Calif., native finished second in 3:58.08, behind Ben Blankenship of Minnesota but ahead of former teammate Galen Rupp, competing for Nike. Acosta’s time is a personal best and the fourth-best in school history.
Junior Mandy White made a strong case in the 60-meter dash, setting her personal best in the preliminaries and again in the finals en route to an NCAA provisional mark. White won her preliminary heat in 7.41 seconds and then won the final in 7.33 seconds. Her final time is tied for the 14th best in the country.
Zoe Buckman also recorded a top-14 mark nationally, finishing fourth in the 800 meters in 2:05.72. Buckman’s time is also an NCAA provisional mark.
