The head of the ASUO’s judicial groupwill step down at the end of March, which is likely to leave the body short a member at just the moment when its workload has traditionally been heaviest.
Law student Eric Blaine, the chief justice of the ASUO Constitution Court, announced his resignation in a March 3 e-mail sent to the heads of the ASUO’s other two branches. He did not cite a reason for his departure, but said his successor as head of the court has already been selected. He is the longest-serving member of the court, whose functions include settling disputes involving those in ASUO office and interpreting the ASUO’s rules.
Blaine will be succeeded as chief of the court by Casey Sanders, also a law student, who became a member during fall term.
Spring term is usually the busiest season for the court because the ASUO elections usually involve the most grievances of the year. Interviews have not yet begun for the seat that will become open with Blaine’s departure.
