Moving in college can be a real hassle, and yet for most people, it is inevitable every year. Whether your permanent home is out of state, out of country, or even just a jog north or south on Interstate 5, the last thing you want to worry about after a stressful finals week is how you are going to get all of your things back home.
Enter storage facilities.
For some people, it might just be a simple convenience to leave your things in Eugene and not have to deal with loading up a car and driving it all home, only to return with everything four months later. For others who live far away or even internationally, it may be a necessity. Luckily, Eugene has many companies that will gladly look after your
possessions until you return.
Dorm2Dorm is a company that sends you boxes that you can store clothing, school supplies and other miscellaneous items in. Then, you set it outside your front door, and they come, pick it up and store it. When you come back to Eugene, they will deliver your boxes to your new dorm or apartment. They typically charge $11.24 a month for “normal” sized boxes and $21.24 a month for “large” sized boxes. They have some deals going on right now, however. You can check out their Web site at dorm2dorm.com for more information. This is a good option for people who may not have too much to store, but may be too expensive or not applicable if you have larger items.
Summer Storage is another option. They provide packing materials and will pick up and deliver your items for free. Their rates range quite a bit because they offer to store a large amount of furniture and other items, but their base rate starts at $99 for the entire summer. You can receive a quote by filling out a form online at summerstorage.com. They ask for the types of items you will be storing, and then can provide you with a custom rate. This is a good option if you have a lot of items that need to be boxed, as their rates for boxes are relatively low. If you have a lot of furniture, however, it might not be the best because it can get quite expensive.
If you have a large amount of things to be stored, or several big items (beds, televisions, refrigerators, etc.), you may want to look into renting an actual storage unit. There are many options in Eugene, two of them being Economy Self Storage and Eugene Secure Storage. These companies offer large storage units that may be more economically feasible if you have a lot of items. You want to check and make sure that they either have a summer option for leasing a unit or simple month-to-month leases; otherwise you may find yourself paying for a unit when you no longer need it. The downside with these facilities is that you have to store your items yourself, as opposed to Dorm2Dorm and Summer Storage, who will pick up your items and deliver them to you when you need them.
Eugene has numerous great options to limit the moving hassle and make the moving experience as painless as possible. Just be sure to analyze where you stand before making a decision, and then be sure to weigh your options. Regardless of which company you choose, storing your items over the summer can be a huge relief and weight off your shoulders.
