There are certain times when our collective experience as people triumphs over our membership as part of “rival” institutions. One such instance occurred this past weekend. The instance I am referencing is the atrocious act of vandalism that occurred at the LGBTQA office in the EMU this past weekend.
The instance served as a reminder of the challenges we as students face in working towards a more just, equitable and inclusive environment. Although the students of Oregon State University have not suffered an act of vandalism, we have suffered in watching the identities of our friends and fellow collaborators in Eugene come under attack. Today, in Corvallis, we stand with you.
We stand with, and for those who support, the mission of the LGBTQA office.
We stand next to those who were meant to be scared by these despicable acts.
We stand in support of the rebuilding effort.
We stand for the University of Oregon’s commitment to equity in promise and practice.
From all of us at ASOSU: We love you, Ducks!
