President Obama just approved the construction of two new nuclear reactors for the first time since the 1970s. That gives Iran another excuse to pursue its controversial nuclear program. Let’s compare the two countries: America has nuclear plants and bombs. Iran doesn’t.
America is the only country to have used nuclear bombs against another country. Iran has never even attacked another country. I guess nobody questions Obama’s nuclear intentions because America already has thousands of nuclear bombs. Even if it wasn’t for peaceful purposes, there’s almost nothing the world can do about America acquiring more nuclear bombs.
The truth in America is we’ll never know Iran’s real intentions until it’s too late to stop them, and until then, America will live in fear of and hate toward Iran, as it does with every country that we don’t support or control. The truth in Iran is: if Iran uses nuclear weapons against another country, the world (led by America) will erase Iran from the face of the earth in that same week, and if Iran uses a nuclear weapon against Israel, it will also destroy Jerusalem and Palestine. Iran knows all that. That’s why all the debates about Iran’s nuclear program have nothing to do with nuclear attacks or national security.
From another angle, Obama doesn’t seem to have learned much from the biggest obstacle of his first year: Health care reform. His biggest mistake was to compromise too much from the beginning, campaigning for a public option and ending up with nothing, instead of campaigning for single-payer then settling for a public option. Now, he’s doing it again with energy reform.
Liberals and Democrats want solar/wind/geothermal/wave energy, while conservatives and Republicans want nuclear/coal/oil/gas energy. Instead of including nuclear energy as a bargaining chip in a comprehensive energy bill that focuses on green energy, Obama is giving another gift to Republicans and further jeopardizing the strength and passage of a progressive energy reform that would allow America to compete with Europe, while providing a healthier and safer environment for its citizens. Hey Republicans, threats to our national security include energy dependence and climate change.
