The Oregon Acrobatics and Tumbling program (previously Stunts and Gymnastics) is set to kick off its 2010-2011 season at noon this Saturday at Springfield High School.
The Ducks will host the Oregon All-Exhibition showcase, an event that brings high school programs from across the state to the Eugene area.
“This weekend is a great opportunity to get our freshmen competing in front of a crowd for the first time,” head coach Felecia Mulkey said in a GoDucks.com press release. “It’s also a chance for us to show the opportunities that exist for high school athletes from across the state at the collegiate level here at Oregon.”
Last year, in the program’s first year of competition, the Ducks took home a third place finish at the National Championships. Oregon returns 24 members from that team and welcomes 11 newcomers into the program for 2010.
The Ducks are ranked No. 2 by the National Collegiate Acrobatics and Tumbling Association’s preseason coaches’ poll heading into the season, which will officially begin Jan. 23 against Baylor.
The Acrobatics and Tumbling season runs from late January to late March. Oregon is scheduled to participate in 10 events with three exhibitions.
