After a 4-3 start to the season, the Oregon women’s lacrosse team has hit its first major bump with a three-match losing streak.
The Ducks fell 7-6 at No. 14 Albany on Sunday, dropping their overall record to 4-6 in the process. Senior midfielder Alex Breiner tallied four goals, but Oregon could not stop Albany’s relentlesssecond-period attack.
It was a low-scoring affair in the early going, as both teams managed just a single point in the opening period. Breiner put Oregon on the board with her first goal at the 17:08 mark, but there would not be another goal until the second period.
Albany scored the first two goals to open the final period, taking a 3-1 lead in the process. Oregon would eventually respond with three straight goals of its own, but the Great Danes capped the Ducks’ run and put together one of its own. Albany outscored Oregon 6-5 in the second period and came away with the narrow victory.
Friday’s matchup with Vermont was similarly frustrating. The Ducks broke out to a 5-0 lead in the first period, but the Catamounts roared back to tie the match at seven going into halftime.
From there, Oregon never fully recovered. Vermont outscored the Ducks 4-2 in the final period and ultimately escaped with an 11-9 victory. Junior midfielder Jana Drummond had three goals and an assist in the losing effort, and junior attacker Bina Barrett added three points of her own.
The Ducks will look to right the ship April 8 at California.
