Oregon’s baseball team dropped two of three games at No. 20 Cal over the weekend. On Sunday, Oregon took an early 4-0 lead, but Cal scored four runs over the final three innings to take a 5-4 win. Scott McGough was tagged with the loss for Oregon, while Matt Flemer earned the win for Cal. McGough was one the mound in the bottom of the ninth inning when Austin Booker hit a single through the left side of the infield to drive in the winning run.
Oregon’s lone win in the series came Saturday, when the Ducks took a 4-3 victory. Making only his 10th start of the season, outfielder Andrew Mendenhall provided the game’s critical hit, a two-run home run in the second inning. Meanwhile, Madison Boer pitched 7 1/3 innings of three-run ball to earn his third win of the season. The Ducks opened the series with a 2-1 loss to Cal on Friday. With the score tied at one in the bottom of the ninth, Cal freshman Michael Theofanopoulos hit a double down the right field line that scored Mitch Delfino and gave the Bears a narrow victory. Oregon starter Tyler Anderson pitched well in 7 2/3 innings, allowing only one run while striking out eight, but the Ducks’ offense didn’t have a productive day.
