Oregon did not get off to the start it hoped for as conference play opened against No. 5 Arizona State last weekend.
The Ducks (14-12, 0-3 Pac-10) were swept in Tempe, including their first shutout loss since April 1, 2010. As such, the team will look to break its skid this weekend as Washington (7-19, 0-3) arrives in Eugene.
Starter Tyler Anderson, off to a stellar 4-1 start on the year, is set to take the mound in the series-opener Friday night. Opposing him on Washington’s side will be Jacob Clem (2-4, 4.14 ERA). Oregon’s other slated starters for the weekend are Madison Boer (2-1, 2.22) and Alex Keudell (3-3, 3.77).
The Huskies have also stumbled out of the gates, being swept by No. 24 UCLA last weekend and coming into the series losers of four straight games. As a team, Washington ranks just above Oregon in batting with an average of .244. The Ducks rank last in the Pacific-10 Conference with an average of .229.
Oregon, however, may finally break out of its hitting slump against a struggling Washington pitching staff. The Huskies have tallied a team earned-run average of 5.05 and gave up six runs in a loss to Seattle University on Tuesday.
The two squads last met in late May of 2010 at Husky Ballpark. Oregon walked away with two of the three games, including the rubber match on May 23.
