For the second day in a row, Oregon’s baseball team upended No. 6 Oregon State 4-1. The Ducks used a combination of solid pitching and timely hitting to do further damage to the NCAA Tournament resume of Oregon State, a team which had hopes of hosting an NCAA Regional before the weekend series began.
Although Oregon starter Christian Jones wasn’t as effective as Friday’s starter, Tyler Anderson, he held the Beavers to only one run over 5 1/3 laborious frames to earn his seventh win of the season. Reliever Scott McGough was fantastic in 3.2 innings of relief work, limiting Oregon State to a single walk.
Meanwhile, Oregon’s offense did most of its damage in the third inning, when freshman Aaron Jones laced a bases clearing, three-RBI double down the left field line to erase a 1-0 Beaver lead. The Ducks added an insurance run in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Stefan Sabol.
The teams will meet again tomorrow in the final game of the series, and, Oregon’s regular season. First pitch at PK Park is set for 1:00 p.m.
